GC RFI on Low Carbon (PLC/GUL) Cement Mandate
Dear Reader;
As the environmental conversation around low carbon cement (GUL/PLC) continues to pick up speed, we want to make sure we are keeping you all in the loop, and keeping block front of mind as a building material of choice. Keeping a handle on all the great things our producers are doing helps us to refute the claims made by mass timber, and defend market share for block.
To ensure I have the latest info to support your business regarding GUL/PLC, please fill out this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WG6XWD3
(It’s only 4 questions, and takes less then a minute! I promise!)
Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to our round table discussion on the GC RFI for Low Carbon Cement, due July 17th, 2020. The GC is looking to mandate GUL/PLC on all federal projects effective immediately in 2021. While the majority of block is produced this way (70%), there are still some areas where accessibility to GUL/PLC is challenging. We wanted that to be heard. See the compiled responses from the member feedback below.
The RFI can be found here: https://buyandsell.gc.ca/procurement-data/tender-notice/PW-20-00916369
Additionally, the CCMPA is planning to update our EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) to include GUL/PLC beginning in Q1 2021 to support the industry. (Our current EPD is found here: https://ccmpa.ca/resources-publications/environmental-product-declaration/
